Spurred on by my successes of yesterday, this morning I had a specific objective in mind: An elephant breeding herd crossing a river in some water…
This morning we found a herd right at sunrise and I decided to stay with them for the whole morning. I had this image in my mind from day one, so I was determined to get it this morning. We followed the herd until they started heading towards the riverbed. We drove ahead and located their likely exit on the far side of the riverbank. I set up the remote camera- this time with a fish eye lens and hid it in some leaves.
Then the waiting started. 20 min later, the herd came out into the river exactly 50m upstream from the camera! They were very relaxed and languidly walked downstream towards exactly where my camera was in wait. Situated about 100m away, waited for the elephants to walk right up the bank before firing the shutter.
My days at Mashatu have come to an end, and in the last morning I believe I have the image I wanted when I arrived. Funny how things work out…
