Wild dog mania – June 13

The number 13 may be of superstition to some, but personally I find the little white helmet shrikes crossing my path a better omen. When our ranger also pointed out that in Tswana, a Steenbuck crossing your path was their good luck, I knew we were in for a great afternoons photography...

The birds and steenbuck passed our path en route to the wild dogs, which are denning at the moment. I organised that we were to be the one vehicle at the den over the course of the photo workshop. (only one vehicle per day is allowed at the den site to minimise disturbance).

We found the dogs relaxing near the den and just as the light turned a golden hue, they excitedly getup and made off on the hunt. We followed slowly behind and managed to get a few images of these animals as they went about through the ever more beautiful light.

We were in photography heaven! These two are two of my favourites from this days shoot.
