A Glimpse of Eden
South Luangwa was the destination and flying in I noticed how green this part of the Rift valley is. Of course the recent rainy season was the cause and the oxbow lakes, the Luangwa river and floodplains were all full to the brim. A beautiful green covered the whole reserve hampering animal sightings somewhat but also offering tantalising glimpses of life.
With so many wide rivers leading into the Luangwa the offer of animals in these beds plays tricks on the mind. And then it happens- a small inkling of foresight plays out and we follow a leopard until it pauses, looks left and right, and then stalks across this sandy riverbed. Shadows clutch at the day but the sun gifts a small opening to highlight this cat before it disappears away into the greenery. A small glimpse of eden, over in 20 seconds.

This is so beautiful!! I often feel that photographers are too set on getting close-ups of animals (almost canned shots) rather than showing them in their environment and capturing the mood and spirit of the wild which this does so perfectly! Magic!!
